The Ultimate Baby Mobile!!! Vol. 2

Back from a long break!

This is the baby mobile I made for a family friend's baby girl. I really got obsessed with mobiles & felt.

Since this one's girly, it's mostly pink. There are a flower, a butterfly, a moon, a star, a heart, a bird, a cloud and a rainbow. The rainbow took me eternity to make! Otherwise it wasn't that much different than the mobile I made last year.
For the bird I used this pattern & idea. Many thanks for it!
I've been anything BUT crafty recently. I mostly experiment with origami now, because I have big piles of paper at home. The creative vibe hasn't gone away from me though!

I have been busy with work and moving to uni is in some days :D

So here is my whale softie, all hand sewn.

I used watercolors, acrylics, black ink, sharpies, old book pages, a preserved little flower and lots of happy thoughts ;)

Its been a while and I have a good explanation for my absence! To sum it up, I had lots off paper work and dates to follow around uni applying, and yay! I got accepted! I'm gonna study in an economics university in Varna - AT THE SEA!! <3

So yes, I'm pretty happy and giddy :D

Creative gift wrapping

Hello there fellow crafters!

Yes, I have one more thing to say :D

Sooooo it's my father's birthday today and I got him a present but I realized I had no wrapping paper left... And it was really supposed to be something low-budget, because I'm out of my savings!

So! I just decided to paint flowers on newspaper paper :D

It's nice because it makes the paper fancy, and also turns it to something useful!

And I particularly like flowers because I don't paint that precisely and flowers look great even if they are somewhat doodle-y. Of course, the variations here are endless, limited just to your imagination borders!

Nothing really special anyway, just an idea I wanted to throw!

I let it sun dry for a while.

And that's the final look of the wrapped present!

Scrunchy!

Ahoy there!

I'm back for a while with just a little something I would like to share with you. I've been feeling anything BUT creative lately, so I dumped the crafty stuff for a while.

So there's this girl I met the other day, her name is Rosie and she's 12. I thought she was sweet and wanted to give something to her, so I tried to think what I could make for her. And then I came home and I searched through my craft box (yes I have a craft box!) but couldn't find anything that would probably do.

See the thing is, that I always want my stuff to be useful; and I can't make anything unless I know its exact purpose. So "just this little something" couldn't do for me.

And there I was with this strange piece of purple fabric and a bunch of different coloured felt pieces. I had no beads to make any jewellery, no fabric enough to make anything bigger, so I thought and I thought and then it suddenly hit me...

Scrunchy!

Yes, I could make a scrunchy!

So I started sewing. And then I cut out little flowers from the colourful felt and glued them to the scrunchy. And voila!

To be honest, I was inspired by Lupin's flower brooches and particularly by the forget-me-nots:

So I started out with the desire to do felt flowers.

And then it suddenly turned into a scrunchy!

! And here's the lovely gift I gave Mona for her birthday:

I had the most lovely three days at the sea this past weekend!

My cousin invited me and I couldn't resist <3 ... and that was the reason I couldn't post the mini Monday D:

Mini Monday - Photo Book

I decided I'm gonna make a regular crafty update every Monday

So! Firstly I made this little book to keep mini photos I get from friends, thats compact enough to carry in the little pocket in my bag :]

It was so much work! And the time it took me to make it was more than 3 hours! =O

But it turned out just the way I wanted it x3

Fancy Paints

THE ULTIMATE BABY MOBILE!

I decided to do this mobile maybe half an year ago, a little after I learned a friend of mine was pregnant.

It took a lot of time and a lot of efforts.

Felt was playing hard to get, so I had to ask Mona for some emergency supplies. (hooray for her!)

And after that, I had too much going on and not so much time left for crafting.

And, have you seen me sew! I suck at it!

But I believe I got better with practice.

It was a huge project for me and I love every single bit of time I spent making it.

I googled for some nice colorful pictures of animals and then turned them into patterns and drew and cut and sewed. You can see the result!

I believe it is sweet. I made the base from paper mache and then wrapped it in blue yarn.

Oh! And I had to introduce myself to stitching. Also a fun part. And took a little help from little pals them glitter pens.

And that's the proud owner of the mobile.

not good at quilling

Inspired by a co-worker of my parents, I decided I could try and do a quilled birthday card for my cousin's birthday. Well it wasn't exactly quilled, more like... poorly folded :D Anyway.. the flower turned out sweet, but my glue sucked and the card couldn't survive through the bus travel and fell apart. It seems that I din't quite get it that cardstock doesn't work well when you try to fold it.

I still like the colors though.

Just a card I made to give as an un-birthday present to a friend of mine. The flowers are from a real dried blossom, and the branches are made from brown tissue paper. Inside I wrote "We stare at the ugliness too much and by doing so we miss so many wonderful things."

Yesterday I went on a supply hunt

and found some to die-for doohickeys <3

Very first Order

I'm like so honored!

This is the first order I received in like ever!

The little lady that requested it is from my cousins class, since she liked the phone cozy I made for her. I was so happy to hear that it made an impression on her x3! And it was such fun making a wrapping for it. I don't have it now but I'll make a tutorial on some very cheap and easy wrapping pretty soon ;D

Miss Button-eyes Pouch

Aww! I so missed this! Mainly because I did it last summer and it gives me such a warm vibe :D <3

So this Missy was made around July last year (when I still had no felt). For the main base I used an pretty new tank top that was too short for me. On the top of the head there is some tiny pink lace that you can see with a microscope and on one of the ears(?) a ribbon thats way more hot pink than it looks ... cheeks are with acrylic.

I was so hoping to make a series of these ... maybe this summer ;D

Its really easy and fun because you get to decorate however you want (I didn't follow the cupcake pattern 'cuz there are already to much cupcake post around here xD )

I skipped school today. Why? Because I had the this wonderful winter scenery outside! The perfect weather for making little things and drinking hot cocoa! Although my current project will take a while here are some things I did before Christmas with what was (then) remaining from my felt materials:

LION!! It is a lion! Look at the lace, see! That's the mane! Never mind ... but its still a lion .. a cub at least C:
The ribbon is love! It was from the pack I got when I went to visit dess ! I so wish to get more of it D:

I made it with a skirt so its a female. PERIOD!

A couple

And so, I made this felty couple yesterday <3 The are both 6cm tall and about 4-5cm wide; stuffed with pillow insides and given the vision thanks to dad's old shurt buttons and buttons gotten as gifts from friends ;D
I have also started Maddy's project and may post some sketches if any come out good ;/

Happy Christmas everybody!

I hope you all had a really nice and warm Christmas. I surely did. Don't you just love that time of year?

And one of the 1000 things we love about Christmas is presents!

And as lovely it is to get one, it's pretty adorable to give too.

Here's what I made for my friends:

Mona advised me to go with little cute boxes. Now I had an idea how to make an origami box, but I basically used this tutorial, found via How About Orange.

It all started with a raid in Slunchogled together with Dessie, resulting in a two-hour fun with the smell of freshly baked Christmas cookies and all the colors in the world imaginable. Of course, I had to constantly remind to myself, "Take only what's necessary. You don't have the funds to buy all this loveliness." So I had to sadly leave the store with only a bunch of ribbons, patterned paper, plain paper, beads, felt and fabric glue.

I didn't have that much time for all my presents. So here's what I came up with:

In the first box there were some

Must-have-been pom-pom flowers!

As you can see, they have nothing to do with real pom-pom flowers. My original idea was to follow this pom-pom tutorial (probably found via How About Orange too), but it turned out I had too little yarn. So after not getting a proper pom-pom, I cut the yarn into little strings, looped them and tightened them together with some flower wire. I still love the pinkness though! And btw we found this yarn left over on the street when Mona was visiting. We thought it would do a lovely work for... well... something.

That's the second box:

Now the guide for the decoration atop the box is from Martha Stewart's site, however I couldn't find it. It looks sweet, but I strongly recommend that you make it out of paper. I tried to do it from some other material. It was a disaster. It still is.

Now comes my fav one:

I got the tutorial from here. It's really easy to make and lovely. I decided to attach a strap so it could easily be tied anywhere you like.

using the How About Orange tutorial for making bows. Sorry for the bad photo quality, but it was like 8 in the morning and I was terribly late, so... you get the point.

Idontknowwhatitis!

It has butterflies and flowers! I used the lovely butterfly pattern from Bugs and Fishes. I will later post a tutorial for the dontknowwhatitis. And for the must-have-been pompom flowers too.

Isn't he lovely? It took me one night to make him. He's terribly sweet. His eyes look like fried eggs :D Here's the lovely tutorial from Future Girl. Everyone finds him pretty sweet and I have my first order to do a second one. I stuffed him with cotton (I had nothing else around). When my friend got it, she was holding it upside-down and wondering what it is :D She is still surprised why would I want to give her an octopus and not anything else.

I've been making fabric flowers for friends and family. Here's two of them:

Thicker fabric is better to work with. Wool is nice.

And now, a few tips, so this post actually says something:

when you work with felt, you need really sharp scissors.
Its' best to have all cutting devices around: small scissors, big scissors, fancy scissors, really sharp scissors and exacto knives.
Same goes for adhesive: paper glue, fabric glue, all-purpose glue, fast-drying glue, liquid glue, dry glue, small tape, large tape, double-sided tape(!), paper tape. You never know what you're going to need.
Some stuff you may need that is not listed above: tweezers, toothpicks, paperclips and spare paper.
Fabric glue is good if you are patient enough: if it says you have to wait, you have to wait. Otherwise, find some other way to stick fabric (mentioned above)
Trimming is a really big part of sewing, so get thee a working surface that can be easily cleaned after you finish.
If you work with fabric, be specifically aware that it usually has two sides and be careful not to mix them.
Use exact, precise and pre-taken measures. This makes everything go easier.

The Cupcake Craze

I was planning on posting this so long ago but ... meh :/ These were the little charms/key chains I made to give out to friends because ... well I felt gifty ;D Aren't I gen... never mind xD

Each and every one of the cupcakes are 4cm high and 3cm wide. They started out as practice-on felt-charms, but became rather sweet and somehow all the friends I wanted to have one came at about the same week ;DDD
If i thought that was gonna work I should have made them earlier ;D

HAAAAA!! Here! A Post!! Huzaaaah! So, Dess took me under her care for the weekend last week
and showed me the most amazing shop in all the world!! xD It's called Slunchogled (sunflower) and has all the doohickeys you can imagine; all crafty ;D It took me about half an hour to relax from the shock and actually start shopping ;D And for the first time ever ... felt ... FELT!! We fond felt in this forsaken feltless country! xD

And here is the first big thing I made with it!

Weeeee! He is my new iPod cozy ;D

About 15cm tall and 7cm wide he has a front pocket for keeping small things and a pretty flower shaped button! Girlie galore! ;D All hand sewn (because sewing machines scare me and cuz I have none) and took me about 5-6 hours to make D:

PS: Dad is hell of a lot scared of it xD
He said that the material gives him goosebumps!

2 in 1: Butterfly Mobile & Birthday Card

Mona was supposed to post a whatsoever thingie, but... surprise! she didn't. Instead, I have two things to blab about. The first one is a butterfly mobile by Bugs and Fishes, and the second one's a birthday card.

I'd made the mobile quite a long time ago, I just had a hard time making the construction so it can be hung. It had to be made from felt, but since felt is so hard to find here (ask Mona about it ;)), my mother suggested I could make it out of table wipes. Now I would definitely like to say it was really fun, but it wasn't. Felt would have done much better.

Anyway, I would like to make another one for a friend's baby that's about to be born in January.

The other thing is a birthday card I made for a friend of mine. It was really hard to design it, because black and gold are totally not my colors when it comes to crafty work. But the friend's personality suggested that I should use these colors. I accidentally realized I have been making all of my cards out of scrap :D The black cardboard here is from the box that contained my mother's phone, and initially it had "samsung" written on the back :D My parents were ready to throw it away, but I willingly took it, because I didn't feel like going to the stationery. And the ribbon is from one of my prom celebrations, when I was hysterically shouting "I need a black ribbon!" and drove my family crazy. So my mother hastily tried to find the best black ribbon possibly invented, and got me two of them. This is one and the other was the one I was actually wearing. So it kind of brings memories back, and I hate to destroy memories, but... nevermind.

I bought the black-and-gold paper from an art store in Sofia, which Mona found pretty charming when she came to visit. I find it expensive, but a little bit of self-indulgence is always good to do.

I have to give an immense thank-you for the design of this card to my mother. I spent no less than two days wondering how exactly to make the composition, and after seeing my point, she just said "Oh why don't you do it that way?" and I just did. She was incredibly helpful. Love you, mom!

Fruit Tarts

I'm such a lamer when it comes to cooking! Nothing gets done properly and I end up having a pile of inedible stuff to do with.

It so happened though, that I succeeded in making a sweetish thing right. I first heard about The Jewels Of New York through Oh Joy and though I'm not really a cooking-at-home fan, I decided to try something. That's how I learned to make lentil soup! It turned out pretty sweet! Then, for my birthday, I wanted to make some other stuff that didn't turn out so well. Today I wanted to make a chocolate thing from their site, but my oven was bad enough to spoil everything by burning my dough! How mean is that? Even now it's standing on the balcony, waiting for me to do something with it. As if that's not enough, Plamena accidentally spilled the can with cream, leaving it with barely anything, but I somehow managed to make a decent creme that was waiting to be used. I then started dipping cookies in it and it turned out pretty sweet. Literally.

The other thing I wanted to try was a recipe from At Down Under, found through - can you imagine it? Oh Joy. That's pretty easy to make it and I reccomend it to everyone! It's so simple!

Of course, I bought a ready-made and frozen choux pastry, although if you really have the nerves you can try to home make it. Then the creme was really an easy thing, substituting the cornstarch with cocoa, because I thought it'd suit better with apples (I decided to do it with apples. They are terribly delicious!) and I did it half-dose. Of course, because something has to go wrong, the creme went over really fast and I had to use the left over chocolate creme from my crazy unfinished recipe, so I kind of managed the situation.

The pastry bakes really fast, and I made rectangles because I don't have circular shapes here. I didn't completely remove the bottom of the tart, just a part of it so I could fill it but it would still stand firmly. I made 12 pieces out of a 400 gr. pack, and the creme is really fast and cheap to make. I used only two apples too. It was a total blast.

And look at the flowers Nevena gave me! Did I mention how I love girl parties?

Crafty Post Number Four: A Magazine Basket

I believe four to be my lucky number, and hooray! The fourth post happens to be m.i.n.e.!

Now look at that. It's a fine crafty project from How About Orange with an Oh so great tutorial!!! I l.o.v.e. it. How About Orange is a wonderful blog and after I made a coaster:

I saw this wonderful tutorial! And I was like "Oh I'll just do it some other time!" And then a few days ago I suddenly felt like making a magazine basket. I destroyed a 2007 furniture catalogue to make that and I hope my roommate doesn't kill me for that :D

I love the way it turned out. This is definitely the easiest and most fun craft project I've ever done! I could make these my whole life. They're fantastic.

The sad news is that I have nothing to do with it and I'll eventually have to give it away or ditch it somewhere. Nobody wants it though. And it's so sunny.

Another thing: our mailbox turned out to be filled up with spam mail, so I decided not to throw them away. I tried to do a pyramide out of the pages, but I couldn't. It turned out to be something like a 3-D diamond. It's in the dustbin anyway.

A Birthday Card

So yes, I'm officially and finally on Cat In The Jar.

That's the birthday card I made for a friend while I was back home.
It shows a total lack of imagination, but in that very same week I was doing another card, plus a bonus crafty project (made from table wipes) that I'm gonna show you here when it's finally ready.

I looked at millions of websites giving ideas for greeting cards, and look where I came to. But it turned out I was out of all my materials and this card is made of just what was left in the bunch of colorful things. (y'know, because it's too hard to go to the store and buy some new) So it kinda couldn't be extremely creative! The blue strip is something my mother has kept in the house for years with no particular purpose, and to make the orange decoration I had to destroy a gift bag. At least it's fit for a low budget!

The inside of the card is made out of tiny dots I drew. And although i find it terribly sweet, it took me a whole 3 hours to do that and drained me out! I think it turned out nice anyway.

So that's it for now! I have no further plans coming for making quirky stuff for now, but oh we'll see about that!

Coaster or Notepad

So these, obviously papery, things are from How About Orange's very,
very useful tutorial. Although it was for cup coasters,
I experimented a bit and made one notepad.
